Not the most glamorous-sounding route, but I took it rather than take the motorway back to Dublin and was pleasantly surprised by this road. Good visibility, nice bends, and mostly good surfaces. Smiley face all the way!
The main downside is hitting a few villages and their 50km limit, but otherwise highly enjoyable. Of course, the usual caveat regarding Irish roads in intensive agriculture areas applies. Farmers have full licence to spread as much shite as they want on the carefully-engineered surfaces, and seem to do so with great zeal. It's a bit like animals marking their territory. At this stage, the whole country smells of shite - but that's another story. Watch out for it in the wet - lethal.
I ended this route at Athy because the town is a traffic nightmare, even on a bike. Almost met my maker when an octogenarian deliberately pulled out in front of me without a care in the world and with his caravan behind him.
After Athy, the road is almost straight and has a bizarre 60km limit most of the way to Naas, so do anything you can to avoid it. Motorway would be better.
So, an unexpected bonus in the not-so-boring Irish midlands.
Mix of bypass, main roads and twisties. Takes in Sherwood Crescent and the Lockerbie memorial garden.
langs kastelen en bos
Popular advanced course through from Kent to Billings Hurst and Goodwood then back
A very popular route for the advanced courses with a bit of everything
Min favoritt til Kristiansand Store variasjonar i landskapet I hovudsak svingete vegar med stort sett bra asfalt. Kan vere store temp variasjonar. Hadde variasjonen 10 - 28 C og 14 - 30 C på to turar juni 2020
MYKJE AV ALT Denne ruten er noe forlenget ut over korteste vei. Den har som sagt mye av alt, etter min smak. Den kan forkortes noe om ønskelig, en må ikke kjøre på grus. Hovedveiene har i all hovedsak god asfalt.
a bit of everything for everyone and a different route than the usual one to Rye
Nu we terug in NL binnen mogen een kleine maar mooie uitbreiding van de noorderkempenroute. Commentaar altijd welkom :-)
Da Milano a Gossolengo passando dalle colline pavesi.
Zoals de vorige maar nu we terug in NL mogen komen, wat langer :-)
This route still excites me twenty some years since I first did it. The road twists and twists for the whole length. Tarmac is old but the grip is good. Absence of any traffic, yet stay alerted, the one car you ‘ll meet may very well be in your side of the road. If in need, petrol may be available in Klepa village right above the dam. Best ridden from South.
Normal rural scenery between lovely coastal roads.
A southern loop from Murau to Stadl an der Mur which can be used as part of a much longer route when travelling The Sölk Pass or heading across to Nockalmstrasse for example.
The roads are a mixture of sweeping curves and long fairly straight sections passing through a few villages along the way. Basically valley roads passing around the smaller mountains at the eastern end of the Alps.
Being the valleys you can expect farm traffic at times but generally the roads are fairly quiet. At the time writing the road surface varies considerably from very good to poor. So poor in places that I would expect remedial work to be taking place any time soon.
You should also be aware that some sections have some serious undulations which when rounding curves at speed can test your suspension somewhat.
Beautiful scenery adds to the experience.
* Stay on the L62 a bit further rather than turn off on the L63 and you can find an interesting route on small mountain roads that will take you across to teh southern end of Nockalmstrasse.
I have attached a video of the route which is cut short a little due to Bug Splatter on the camera lens.
