Probably my favourite road in Wales. High intensity stretch for over 20 miles. Brilliant surface, abundance of bends and a decent amount of straights too. Ace!

Theres a reason why there are so many posts on this route its a cracker. Carry on to crickhowell or alternatively Llandovery and extend the fun. Both ways are great. I found it had less traffic heading from Newtown. Enjoy.

one of my favourite roads, 20+ miles of constant bends and sweeping corners, very few tight corners and lots of visibility. not many straights and what there are are short. very popular with bikers especially in the summer, but a good road most of the year, even when wet. can be ridden very quickly, 60+mph, most of the way and the tricky/tight corners are mostly surfaced with shellgrip, although it is showing signs of wear now. a must ride road.

Police now very active here due to the recent spate of motorbike accedents on this route. So many places for them to hide as well

I apologise first up for driving this in a car but there is nothing like this website for car drivers. This route, the A483 from Newtown to Crossgates, is probably, my favourite. Partially for its length (the run is over 20 miles long), for its intensity (the fun almost never stops), the quality of the road (it's a very wide, well-metalled road - plenty of opportunities to overtake slower vehicles) and it even has a (nearly!) hairpin. Please note: I've never seen police on this road but I have to say the reputation of the local force on road matters is not great. The garage and cafe at Crossgates is a well-known stop for bikers in the area.

Did this road last week with friends travelling South from Newtown (after a boring ride from Anglesey to Welshpool). Need to blast past the cars / caravans and then you e away. Found the tarmac to be very good indeed with good visibility, consistent corners and lovely sweeping bends - one after another. After the very twisty initial part there are several safe places to overtake.

Huge fun on the ZX9R, I will be going back for sure. Didn see any Police, but there would have been plenty of places for them to hide out. Getting caught speeding would have been bad as the road does permit some very high speeds in places that would see you banned before you know it. Lots of speeding cars playing on this section too.

Amazing. Had two friends from abroad riding with us who described it like a race track.

Highly recommended on any bike if you e in the area (even saw a 2-up Pan European going for it).

Turned a boring day into a spectacular one.

Did this recently on my MT-01. Great road, and maybe recently resurfaced? Very smooth now, and with some fantastic bends.

Awesome road! Did it on my SV650, as I wanted to really test the bike. I was smiling like a Cheshire cat. Youve all the twisties you need from switchbacks to long racking bends that allow you to lean. Do it early to avoid the inevitable lorry as passing is limited and adds to the frustration of having 30+KM of fun available to you

Have riden this road in both directions dozens of times.12 miles of twisties at Newtown end and 12 miles of sweepers at Crossgates end.Have seen Police activity increase over past couple of years but always in the fast sweeping section within 5 miles of the Crossgates Cafe. Most of the Newtown end was re-surfaced in about 2006 to a Donington Park standard. Couple of nasty bends but you know about them because of the Shell grip.

I rode this route south from Newton but turned left at A44 as I was on route from North Wales to London. It has to be one of the best bits of tarmac I have riden in the UK, who needs to abroad when we have roads like these so close.

I came across his road a few years ago, jus by looking at a map of Mid Wales, and it just said, please ride me. It was just like a scwiggle on the map. Having ridden it several times, I prefer the route to Newtown, however the route from Newton is growing on me. I use it for advanced training, getting riders to look ahead and plan the ride. On this road there are a variety of bends, tight and some great long open ones, where you can play with the throttle, get the back tyre to bite OH! enjot yourself. Word of warning though, iy can be a popular route so watch out for bikes coming the other way. I wil have a word withthe forum master and see if he will link some video footage I have.

Best road in mid Wales but do it from Newtown its not so good the other way. First part tight bends, middle section long sweeping bends, last bit a few tight bits. Almost no police attention.

I rode this section with a local rider showing me the way. Huge fun! For those who love fast corners, this road won't fail to satisfy.

This is an excellent route, but why not ride the whole Llandrindod Wells/Newtown 'ring'. From Llandrindod Wells join the A4081 and then onto the A470 through Rhayader heading towards Llangurig. At Llangurig join the A489, This is quite a fast sweepimg road with plenty of sweeping bends and downhill straights. Watch ouy for mobile speed cameras around Llandinam, so pay attention to the 40MPH speed limit through the village. Once past Llandinam it a fast section of road all the way back to Newton. Why not make a day of this route by stopping off at Rhayader for a 'pie and and a pint' or even a bit of sight seeing at the nearby Elan Valley Reservoirs. Spectacular!

After the really poor road surfaces, GATSO lined roads of Staffordshire and Derbyshire, this road is excellent. Previous reviews have mentioned road surface, all I can say is that it must have been resurfaced since, the road surface is good. This road is a real treat!

A really good stretch of twisty tarmac which begins by the A44 at one end. Not much in the way of spectacular scenary but a great blast and some good corners shouldn't disappoint.
