Evening Treat : Carluke - Dungavel - Biggar - Braehead

Août 5, 2015 - 4 étoile itinéraire Balade Moto4.0

A favourite tea time blast. Once of the main A71, the road to Muirkirk is fun, undulating, sweepy corners. Turn Left in Muirkirk and blast all the way along to the hydford bridge, a couple of tightening corners with some off set cambers to keep you on your toes. Biggar is a grest place for a coffee, chips or an ice cream. Then head north to Carnwath. This road was used for the filming of David Coultards road safety advert. This is my favourite road in the area. So good you will want to ride it agsin, and its not long so why not. Over themhill to forth, this road rollercoasters its way along while giving an awesome view over Lanarkshire. A fun route that will chase away your post week blues.

Moffat to Girvan via the awsome B740
South Scotland ... > Royaume-Uni > Europe
Juin 3, 2015 - 5 étoile itinéraire Balade Moto5.0

Part of the Scotish SW west coastal loop. Police presents but only trapping people on the motorway, they are positioned on the bridge usually whee the B719 crosses the A(M)74. Use this route to take you west to the coast, some excellent straights initially which get to the B740 where the fun starts. This is the best section by far, good surface, fast flowing bends and undulations with good visibility. Be warned however, plenty of cattle grids and livestock, especially during lambing (make shift caution signs by farmers). After this B741 is abit treacherous and needs resurfacing on many sections. Follow your nose from this point on to the beach at Girvan. Good and very cheap sandwich hut on beach ready for your arrival. From here it's a good place to head south along the coast toward Port Patrick if your doing the SW coastal route (Caution average speed check cams).

A deliberate attempt to travel cross-country East-West avoiding major roads. The section between Elvanfoot and Newton Stewart (A702/712) is glorious. The added bonus at the end of the trip is lunch at Streatery, Sandhead (http://www.streatery82.co.uk/).

Barrhill - Newton Stewart
South Scotland ... > Royaume-Uni > Europe
Janvier 6, 2013 - 5 étoile itinéraire Balade Moto5.0

One of my favourite rides in the UK. The A714 offers a few fast straights, but its beauty lies in sweeping bends, a few tight curves and great views of the River Cree and the Southern Uplands. Theres a shop and a pub in Barrhill for a tea break.

The B7027 (Knowe Road) is mostly single track and bends like a bendy thing. Great views of Loch Maberry and the Merrick. Watch for mud & leaves at the colder end of the year. Used to be plagued by Forestry trucks, but now few & far between.

In the forested area there are a few Roe Deer, and given Bambis adverse effect on road handling, eyes peeled all the way.

Did this run after a couple of days off-roading in the Forest on my way back to the M6. A real joy, good scenery, great bends and the road surface was mostly OK. Little or no traffic and a million times better than the boring A75!

Novembre 8, 2010 - 4 étoile itinéraire Balade Moto4.0

Route following the coast road from Port Seaton to North Berwick then up to Drem and back to Port Seaton. Some great bends particularly on the coastal road. Be careful on the rural roads at certain times of the year as the farmers tend to leave mud on the roads when they exit the fields.

Ive done this route a few times and it is pretty damn good. Plenty of bikes out and about but relatively low police presence. The A7 is a fantastic road on its own but adding the rest just makes it a great route

A71 a decent alternative to using the M8. Mostly 60mph limits through farming country, some speed limits at Livingston and Newmains, not a day out but good to use instead of the M8. Never seen any police and not much in the way of tractors etc.

A714 : Newton Stewart - Girvan
South Scotland ... > Royaume-Uni > Europe
Octobre 12, 2008 - 4 étoile itinéraire Balade Moto3.7

This road has something for everyone. At the Newton Stewart end there are some pretty fast straights and nice sweeping bends. Watch out for deer on this stretch though. Pleasantly wooded run at the side of the River Cree. Road surface here is good but watch out for slippy areas particularly just after a storm. After Bargrennan the road starts to climb and the scenery changes. The road surface also changes and there are quite a few bumps and holes. Approaching Barhill the roads gets twistier. A mixture of fast straights and twisty sections awaits now as you travel towards Girvan and beware of gravel on the corners which is sometimes washed into the road. Approaching Girvan you will have a cracking view of Ailsa Craig on a good day but take care, the route down into Girvan is twisty and demanding. Come back by the A77 Girvan - Stranraer route or head back to Newton Stewart for a different perspective. If you travel this route from Girvan link up with the A712 Newton Stewart- Crocketford route and make a day of it.

A70 / A721 : Balerno - Carluke ( Lang Whang )
South Scotland ... > Royaume-Uni > Europe
Octobre 10, 2008 - 3 étoile itinéraire Balade Moto3.0

Fed up of taking the M8 (hateful road) between Edinburgh and Glasgow? Try this instead. Carluke to Glasgow is orrible, but the section between Balerno and Carluke makes up for it. Some nice bends as you come out of Balerno, but speed limit stays at 40.

BEWARE: the initial road surface out of Balerno is like a farm track, it is VERY bumpy. It is straight however, so unless youre on a 750 kawasaki you should be ok.

It is mostly straight with one or two corners, but this is not a place for lining up corner after corner.

Where this road scores highly though is the traffic, or rather the lack of it. I once saw a milk lorry on this road. And I once saw a car. One time I saw a gsxr 750. Thats about it. This road is empty.

The scenery isnt bad, mostly open country, so visibility is great, it has the occassional forestry commission forest.

Once you get to Carluke though the fun is over. Traffic becomes heavy, speed limit is mostly 50 to Glasgow, scenery is dreadful, and youll have to use a section of the M8 (spit) if you dont want the journey to take 2 hours.
