I live on the A515 (Yoxall) and regularly just run up to Ashbourne by this route to clear the cobwebs and stir the tank. Traffic can be slow if you get stuck behind a tractor or HGV on one of the windy bits but if it´s a clear road then it´s ace..

A regular run for me & Mrs N0bby.

A long stretch of the road was resurfaced in summer 2012 (I had a lousy ride a day after theyd liberally gravelled it) so the surfaces are currently in very good nick, but watch out for cow dung and tractor-mud in Autumn & Winter.

This was a better route a few years ago, but now most of the open sections are 50mph limits, this has made the route less fun to ride. police presence was zero also a few years ago, this year is the first time i have seen a police car on this road (in a side road waiting for speeders at the only stretch of 60mph road) if you keep your speed at a reasonable level you will find the road is nice to ride, going fast on it needs a bike with a good ride quality, i used to ride a zx10r 05 bike on this road and that was a real handfull on the bumpy sections, my new bike handles it much better a zzr 1400. lots of side roads means care is needed for most of its length, the most dangerous section is the s bend near what used to be a fur farm, take it too quick and you wont see the farm entrance and could if unlucky hit something exiting it. overall a nice road that used to be an awesome road knocked back by the lowered speed limits, the lower speed limits was imposed due to us bikers speeding here, so cant complain about it too much

A good mix of corners and some fantastic straights with great undulations. There are plenty of signs about bike safety, and so there should be loads of concealed farm entrances. Road is busy so be prepared for frustrating times. But hey, cherish the time you get to let rip its ell worth it

There are many fantastic roads around Derbyshire but this is my favourite, road condition is good with a mixture of nice straights and reasonable bends with very few cameras on route.
