Generally take this route home. There is a few side road junctions you need to be aware off, limited speed sections and double white lines.

B1026 is a good alternative.

been along here number of times (both) of the Routes suggested here, they both have there own merits & worth a ride to do & enjoy some good little bends, you could add it to a ride to south woodham ferriers via maldon some goood bends there enjoy

Thank you for your comments, I don't think I have been down the 1026 so I might have to one day, I dont get to go out much but I do like trying different roads.

I agree with both the posts so far. Both roads are good. The 1022 is faster and slightly wider and the 1026 is less busy. I use both roads equally as often, going over Abberton Resevior if I'm going to Colchester or staying on the 1026 for a ride out to Mersea Island. The 1022 was a very nicely surfaced road but has been f%&ed-up in recent years by the laying of cables under the road. The banding is a hazard in the wet.

Off the B1026 as you near Maldon is Heybridge and just before you hit Heybridge proper, look out for the sign to Heybridge Basin (it's hard to spot). Take a ride to the very end (ignore the free car park, keep going), where there's two pubs and a tearoom, great views across the river and for those boaty types, a lock where you'll find yachts and floating nautical things. The food at the Old Ship is standard pub fayre, I've not tried the other pub's food...yet. The cream teas are a reason to take a seat and kick back a while, but remember leathers aren't as forgiving as fabric, so choose your riding attire to suit your indulgence level. Lamble.

May I point out that the B1062 running parallel to this route is far more scenic, has better bends, fewer police visits and avoids Tiptree. If you must go via Tiptree, then as you leave the town and come to the crossroads for Gt Braxted, take the left immediately after for Tolleshunt, this will link you via Bakers Green to the 1066 and is a ride worth taking on it's own. Alternatively, earlier in the ride from Colchester, leave the 1022 following signs for Layer Breton and follow these across Abberton Reservoir to join the 1066. Ride safe and have fun.
