Hi I am currently in the early stages of planning a road trip from the UK to Istanbul and I am looking for any advice on places to stay, good roads, things/places to avoid really anything that could be of any use from people who have maby made a similar trip in that direction many thanks
Hi, Did you go to Istanbul? Could you tell us about your journey?
I've been thinking about the same journey, actually to south Türkiye and up through the middle to Nevsehir and continue north to Black Sea back along the north coast road to Istanbul and then back through Europe. I live in the UK.
My other two longish trips were down to Sciliy and back via Greece; and fairly recently a trip from Bilbao along the Pyrenees to Barcelona then across the Massif Central and through North Italy to visit the Stelvio pass. On the way back through France on that occasion the temperature was well over 40C. It was very unpleasant, also camping in a tent was bad as well. Massive heat waves in Europe are putting me off for the moment. I would much rather ride in the rain! I would be dryer -- my waterproofs work but being hot underneath I pour rivers of sweat and need lots of stops for H2O. Dehydration can cause dizziness as well but I managed to stop at Le Harve at the harbour rather than going straight on.
I always ride alone BTW.
