A perfect alternative after leaving Nockalm National Park and heading North. Initially the L19,the route takes you up through Innerkremms over a small pass crossing the State Border between Carinthia and Steiermark to Schönfeld where you will find a couple of nice Alms for a refreshment break. Here the route becomes the L267. The road surface over the pass, while asphalt, is very lumpy and there is a short narrow section where the original road has fallen away. From Schönfeld the road surface is very good and the scenery reminiscent of riding through moorland. Further on it becomes forestry and the road winds down through the trees to the Hochofenmuseum Bundschuh, a historic Blast furnace Museum. Limited opening hours so check out the web site http://www.hochofen-bundschuh.at. Continue on the L267 and turn left on the L255 in to Pichlern. As you exit this small village turn right to Pischelsdorf and then left over the river. at the junction with the B66 turn right and after 100m turn left and pass right in front of the Schlossmuseum at Mossham http://www.schlossmoosham.at. A short distance further on can can rejoin the B99.

The L267/L19 from Pichlern to The North Toll Booth on Nockalmstraße.

Anyone travelling from the direction of Tamsweg, Mauterndorf or Sankt Michael Im Lungau and intending to visit Nockalmstraße and the Nockalm National Park from the North Toll Booth could do a lot worse than take this route as an alternative to the A10/B99.

Mostly a mixture of long straights and sweeping bends through forest and open ground with pleasant views on a narrowish road. It is a shade under 20km and passes through very little habitation. Make sure you fill up your tank before you get there because if you are passing through Nockalm National Park you will not find a petrol station for over 60km. On the whole the road surface is very good with the odd cattle grid along the way. However, there is a very bad section of tarmac at Schonfeld where you cross from Steiermark to Corinthia and lasts for several kilometres. No problem on an adventure bike but can be uncomfortable on a sports bike. No other hazards to note but just be aware of tree felling and the associated logging lorries at certain times. I have used this section of road very early in the season when Nockalmstraße has still been been closed and have had no problems. A short video will be attached shortly.
